KENTUCKY TRAINING IS RESUMED Fastest Work Since Spring Recorded Over the Churchill Downs Course Yesterday Louisville Ky August 14 The fastest work of the fall season was done by Coletta and Golden Rule over the Churchill Downs course this morning They worked a half mile in 4S The lirst three fur ¬ longs were covered in 30 Felix Theodore Abadies threeyearold and the maiden threeyearold Co ¬ reopsis worked a half as a team in 4J running the first quarter in 23 and three furlongs in 3Gf W S Trevey worked two yearling colts one by Cunard Miss Marconi and the other a brother to Marline H They went a quarter in 2 which is the fastest work so far for yearlings yearlingsSecretary Secretary Lyman H Davis received a letter today from August itelitiont who is at Newport R L to the effect that he desired to engage stall room for Raymond his candidate for the Kentucky Endur ¬ ance Stakes to be decided OctolK r 7 This will be the only racer Mr Belmont will ship to Louisville this fall He concluded his letter While I do not have an opportunity often to Fee my horses run nevertheless they are nearer to me while racing in Maryland and on the Canadian circuit and if this was not the case 1 would race more in Ken ¬ tucky As you well know I have few horses in training in America at the present time Tho bulk of mv stable is in England I expect the Kentucky Kndurancc Stakes to be run over the Downs course to IH one of the greatest races ever witnessed in inSecretary Secretary Davis has applications from F D Weir H C Hailenbcck Eugene Lutz J F Gaffuey and J T Weaver for stall accommodations Mr Hal ¬ lenbeck wants ten stalls He has such sterling per ¬ formers as Worth Adams Express Azyiade Hedge Prince Gal Frederick L Hobnob Rolling Stone and Sebago SebagoA A yearling by McGee and a twoyearold by Santon arrived at the Downs today They are owned by the noted trainer Carroll B Reid Mr Reid is return ¬ ing to the turf after a long rest These are the first horses he has had in training since he raced Ben Trovato and Third Rail He owns now a fine look ¬ ing weanling colt by Ben Trovato All of his pres ¬ ent racers are out of the same mare Mr Reid has Imen residing on his farm near Houstonville Ky He trained The Picket when that horse won the American Derby and Brooklyn Handicap Another noted horse trained by him was Bangle one of the best horses Tennessee ever sent to the turf Until Carl Jungbluth died Mr Reid trained all of his racers racersBesides Besides Free Lance Peter Coyne has twelve horse in training for George J Long at the Downs All are twoyearolds including the winners Semprite Merlin Madelle and the maidens Miletus Lanka Cheerful and Luria He also has three fillies by Sempronius and one by Sir Huon The last four have not been trained except as yearlings last fall Another youngster in the Long barn is Wyenoke which never lias started With his eight yearlings trainer Covne has twentyone horses to look after Among the maiden twoyearolds in this string are several youngsters of promise llr Coyne thinks a good deal of Merlin George M Odorn also likes Merlin but when lie tried to buy him he was in ¬ formed that he was not for sale Merli never has run to his best work although he is a inner All he needs is a little time Coyne thinks thinksThe The rail birds are keeping close watch n the Long stable and are expecting Free Lance to e set down for a fast mile before long Mr Goyi has been waiting for n good track and as Free Lance is in superb form it is likely he will lie tried out before the close of the week
