NOTES OF THE TURF The thoroughbred yearling Mont dOr a son of Vnl dOr and Loneliness was purchased at Paris yesterday by an agent of J E Widencr of Phila ¬ delphia for 20000 This is said to be the highest price ever paid for a yearling in France FranceThe The yearlings in the R F Carman stable at Louis ville include a chestnut lilly bv Alvescot Daruina a bay colt by Waterboy Blush Rose a bay filly by Watcrboy Duchess of Towers and a chestnut filly by Watercress Almadic The Duchess of Towers lilly is a half sister to Ellleolt and the Aliuadin tilly is a half sister to Emlymion The last named tlireo are grand looking youngsters and came from Hie lot that J B Ilagglu picked out to be sent to England to be sold soldJ J J Parkinson a well known Irish trainer who Jias done some big tilings on the English turf has a strong commercial instinct He is credited with having made a handsome profit during the rubber boom Recently lie acquired an authracito colliery in the south of Ireland and uow lie Is build ¬ ing a railway to develop it Mr Parkinson who be ¬ gan life as a veterinary surgeon is still keeping on with his racing stable There are not many cases in England of professional racing men launching out into an industrial career The most notable are those of Steel and Peech the famous bookmak ers who when they retired from the ring bought a steel plant in Sliellield and made another fortune out of it
