COMMENT ON MARYLAND CONDITIONS Tho lialtimore News makes the following com ¬ ment on the rearrangement of racing dates in Mary ¬ land landThoso Thoso who have the true interest of racing at heart will ho gratified to learn that the managers of the new track at Havre de Grace have gracefully stepped aside and will not conllict with the Hunts meeting on August 28 and 0 the first two days of the meeting at Pimlico Labor Day September 2 both the Hunts and Havre de Grace will race but as that is a holiday and the programs are en ¬ tirely different in character there should be room for Imth There never should have been any conllict of dates The Hunts were granted their dates last spring long before Havre de Grace was in the field by the National Hunt and Steeplechase Asso ¬ ciation a body closely allied with the Jockey Club ClubIt It was only natural to think that the Hunts would be given a clear field lint with the scant courtesy to Maryland interests which has seemed to characterize the Jockey Club that body allowed Havre de Grace to come in and take conflicting dates The conllict threatened serious harm to the Hunts meeting an institution which is doing much o give the sport an uplift which it sadly needs While right may have been on the side of the Hunts it must not be overlooked that the Havre de nice people have acted generously and wisely in the matter They had been granted the dates had issued their programs and made arrangements to race Now they step aside at considerable loss to themselves and give the Hunts the right of way This broad policy will do the Havre de Grace as ¬ sociation no harm With the present feeling with regard to racing in this state a wise head will ho needed lo guide the good ship over the shoals No peanut politics will do doIt It seems a pity that the new track is to conllict with Timonium and Prospect Park both old and established associations dear to local heart It was perhaps not practicable to avoid a conflict this year lint for another season some way should be devised to give each association clear dates
