CANADIANS INTERESTED IN THE FUTURITY FUTURITYToronto Toronto Int Inly 31 The Futurity to be run nt Saratoga on August 30 is an event to which Canadians interested in racing are looking forwad with particular anticipation For the first time in many years a Canadianowned twoyearold figures prominently among tho eligibles for this richest of all American stakes This is the fust filly Southern Maid the property of Robert Davies of this city Southern Maid has beaten almost everything of her own age that sfie has met and is generally conceded to have an excellent chance of winning the Futurity Her recent victory at Hamilton in which with 118 ounds up she ran threequarters in 111 made many new admirers for her among the follow ¬ ers of racing on the Canadian circuit That she will be loyally and staunchly bucked by the Canadians when she fills her Futurity engagement goes without haying hayingIt It is many years since a Canadian stable lias been represented in the Futurity and once only were the honors captured by a Canadian horse that being in 189S when Martimas owned by the late William Hendrle of Hamilton and trained by Kddie Whyte won the event Notwithstanding that the chances of Martimas apitcarcd remote and 200 to 1 was laid against his Chanels he received the sentimental support of practically every person from the Land of the Maple in attendance
