ENEMIES OF RACING HARD AT WORK. Digorgamzers in a Move That Would Probably Prevent the Sport at New Orleans. New Orleans. La.. April 8. — The Times-Picayune says: "Reorganization oi" the Business Mens Pacing Association, the transfer of its lease on the Fair Grounds and the ousting of Jos nh A. Murphy, the manager and those directors who accepted the remuneration voted them, are the plans of tile revolting faction among the stockholders of the association, according to well-grounded rumors that have been permeating the total racing atmosphere in the past few days. "And, in the judgment of some who say they have the good of clean racing at heart and profess to know much of the inside of the situation, the ousting of Judge Murphy and practically the whole directorate and the appointment of a new manager and new board which naturally would follow, probably would result in the abandonment of racing here unless the new manager and new board know racing thoroughly and tan convince horse owners of that fact. "When the stockholders of the Business Mens Racing Association meet April 25. to hear the names of those suggested by the committee of five np-pointed at a recent meeting, there probably will be little or no discussion over the names recommended, for the new board of directors will be the choice of the general stockh. U an. "But. however, conscientious and efficient the new directors may be. and however competent and locally well-known UK new manager may be. no one knows what the horsemen from the north and east will think of a sudden change in the managerial staff of the racing concern. It is freely predicted. by those who wire close to the men who served under Jadge Murphy, that they will all be reluctant to coate to New Orleans under a new management. "One of the many rumors going the rounds the last few days had William Allen, manager of the convention and tourist bureau of the Association of » ommerce. slated as the new manager, but Mr. A1W « mphati ally denied this in a statement he made Wednesday night and. further said he would accept the position under no circumstances." If the plans of the "Ueorganizers" materialize. the name of the organization will be changed to the Merchants*" Racing Association, or some such title. Judge Murphy" has a contract with the Business Mens Pacing Association to serve as manager as lone as the association holds a lease on the Fair Omnia, but the "Ueorganizers" hold the transfer of the leaaa from that organization to a new organization will get around Murphys contract. "Following the stockholders meeting April 25 will come the annual meeting of the Business Mens Racing Association in May. At this meeting it is lielieved all details of the campaign to oust the present directorate will have been completed, a- alao the plans for reorganization if this latter step is taken."
