BASHFORD MANOR STAKES NOMINATIONS. Louisville. Kj.. April 8. — Secretary H. C. Apple-Kate has made public the entries in the Bashford Manor Stakes, which is set to be run this spring at Churchill Downs on Wednesday, May 17. the fourth day of the coining spring meeting of the New Louisville Jockey Club. The event this year lias seventy entries, embracing what is supposed to be many of the crack two-year-old colts and geldings now in training. Like other stakes on the Kentucky circuit tracks, eastern turfmen are prominent in the list of nominators and according to all reports they have entered some of the best of their stables in this event. The Bashford Manor Stakes was first run in 1902, and it has since been an annual fixture at the Downs. Its winners embrace Van Rouse, J. P. May-berry. Oiseau. George C. Bennett, Zal. John Marrs, Fundamental. Joe Morris, La 0 Mexican. Worth, Hawthorn. Little Nephew, Luke and Ellison. It has furnished one Derby winner in Worth, while among the beaten horses in this stake have been two other Kentucky Derby winners, namely, Donau and Old Rosebud. The race has always been at four and a half furlongs and the race record in the event is jointly held by Little Nephew, the winner in 1913. and Luke, which captured the event in 1914. each having covered the distance in 53, which is within a fifth of a second of the track record at this distance, as well as the Kentucky record at four and a half furlongs.
