Cincinnati, O., July 5. John AA Schorrs E1 Crump, carrying the steadying impost of 131 pounds, figure-d in :i winning performance when lie ac-counted for the Newport Handicap of one mile, which featured todays Lutonia card. The victory had added merit from tin; fact that he ran the mile in 1:38, the fastest of the meeting, lie allowed Solar Star to make the early running, although keeping close pursuit until the stretch was reached. Then Garner called ou him and he sprinted away to win as his rider pleased. Solar Star hud no difficulty in landing second place Embroidery, which finished third, might have been more of a factor with better riding. Lnpaille took her back soon after the start and was content to trail along until in the last quarter, where he called on her strongly and she gained rapidly, but was too far back to overhaul the leaders. The offering this afternoon had a decided off-day tinge and was responsible for a slump in the betting. Some of the contests, however, were close with the finishes particularly so. That between High Gear and Al M. Dick aroused considerable enthusiasm, the two youngsters fighting it out in strenuous fashion during the last eighth, with the victory going to High Sear in the last stride. After numerous failures, ISusy Joe at last managed to win a purse when he outstayed Ardent in the second race to win by a neck. A maiden race for two-year-olds opened the card anil Perseus, which R. It. Rosenthal recently acquired from Ceorge J. Long, scored easily over Monotony. Watorblossom will be out of racing until next fall, according to owner T. C. McDowells present plans. The good filly has suffered a filled ankle since her last start and this is responsible for her respite. Jockey F. Murphy resumed riding this afternoon. He will accompany the Weber and Ward stable to Chicago. J. C. Milam has decided to rest Hawthorn until fall racing begins in Kentucky and will ship him with several others to Lexington. Embroidery and Capt. Itees are among those that Milam will take to Chicago for the racing there. Eugene Elrod was among the visitors this afternoon, lie reports the recent Hamilton meeting as the most successful ever held at that track. He is still far from well and will leave shortly for Mount Clemens, Mich., where lie will rest until the opening of the Windsor meeting. General Manager John Hachmeister is planning extensively for next Saturday when the Cincinnati Trophy, the richest stake for two-year-olds in these parts, will be decided. At least ten starters are expected to contest for the rich prize. Among those expected to go to the post are: Harry Kelly, 127 pounds; Green Jones, 124; Rerliu, 121, and America, 10S.
