MORE AMERICAN DERBY ENTRIES. John E. Madden Enters Gillies and A. B. Spreckels Sends Sanjjallo from California. Influenced by the important entries already announced for the betless race meeting of the Illinois Jockey Club at Hawthorne, July 15 to 29. John E. Madden, the leading breeder of thoroughbred race horses in America, has entered Sillies, a three-year-old bv Ogden Golden Drop, in the revival of the American Derby, Saturday, July 15. This entry was received in the mails yesterday and the fact that this good sportsman has found the Derby hero worth, his while, has cheered the backers of the meeting, which is to give back to Illinois a sport which has been dead for twelve years. In the same mail came an entry from California of the best horses in that part of the country. A. R. Spreckels, son of Clans Spreckels, the late sugar king, has entered and announced the shipment from his California breeding farm of Sangallo, by Solitaire II. Lily Golding, winner of the Tijuana Derby. Sangallo will be run in the American Derby and the Illinois Jockey Club Gold Cup Handicap. C. W. Carroll, trainer for Mr. Spreckels, will have charge of this entry at Hawthorne. In view of the fact that applications have been received alreadv for stable- room for more than 424 horses, officials of the Illinois Jockey Club are ready to assure the public that Chicago will have the greatest stake race of the present year in any part of the country. ? r , 1 ; 1 ;
