FOG OBSCURES VIEW OF TORONTO RACES. Sands of Pleasure Wins the Seagram Cup, with Silk Bird Second and Thornhill Third. Toronto. Out., September 2S. A heavy fog hung over the Woodbine Park course most of the afternoon and in several of the races it was impossible to see tin! horses during most of the way. This was particularly so in the steeplechase and the fifth race. There were only two starters in the steeplechase. Collector and Joe Gaiety and the former after refusing at one of the jumps finally i- fell and failed to finish. The feature race of the program was the Seagram Cup. a heavyweight handicap at three-quarters with .,000 added. The winner turned up in Sands of Pleasure which began in front and was leading when the field came into view in the homestretch. At the finish he led Silk Itird by a length and a half with the top weight Thornhill, third beaten a length for second place. The latter carried the exacting impost of 140 pounds. J. F. Sweeney purchased the promising three-year-old Arch Plotter from Mrs. L. A. Livingston this morning. II. Giddings has turned the timber-topper Hearts of Oak over to William Garth, who will race him on the Maryland tracks this fall. T. Cruttenden, a local business man, claimed the two-year-old Starter for 75 after he won the first race. Claims were lodged by the following for Obolus after he won the second race: W. Stormont, !. E. Phillips, W. Walker, Mrs. T. Trovato and T. Cruttenden. In the drawing Mr. Stormont secured the horse for S925. Yorkville was claimed by Mrs. Trovato, after he won the seventh race yesterday. R. W. Millett has purcsased from Mrs. L. A. Livingston the two-year-old Smart Money and turned him over to Edward Trotter to train. Lady Curzon came out of her last race in bad condition and will be retired to the ISrookdalo Farm of Messrs.
