On the same day at that track, Helen Nichols, ridden by John McCafferty, won a purse for two-year-olds. E. M., Chicago. This newspaper .has frequently and for some years past, advanced the opinion that in the mutuels when a field horse wins or runs to a place, every other field horse in the race wins accordingly. That many layers do not accept this opinion, is a fact with which we have nothing to do.
