CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. James Brocken, of Brookfield, Mo., lias bought the four-year-old Shrewsbury from L. A. Broaddus and has had him gelded. In race 30270 Pebeto carried 15S pounds and Cynosure 135, telegraphic errors having occurred in the transmission of the chart. Henry McDaniel, who trains for Willis S. Kilmer, and who is going abroad for his employer, is at present at the Pimlico track. When he arrived there last Saturday, he made the startling confession that, although he had been engaged in racing for more than a quarter of a century, it was the first time lie ever had visited, or even seen, that oldest and most historic race course of Maryland. The Pimlico meeting was to have marked the end of the race riding career of young Harry Tansey in any event, for he had decided to give up riding and return to acting, which had been his calling up to a few years ago. when his love for the horses took him to the turf. His father, mother and all his brothers are of the stage, and his mother had just returned to New York from a trip witli Mary Pickford on the day he met his death. Sheridan Clarke, who was a visitor in Montreal following the close of the meeting at Devonshire Park, Windsor, where he was presiding judge, has returned to his home in New York. He visited the Dorval racing plant before leaving Montreal and reports that a gang of men are at work redressing the track with sand. It is hoped that the snow will amalgamate the sand and clay so that when it is turned over in the spring, better footing will be offered to race over.
