; CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. Grant Hugh Browne lias about fifty yearlings stabled at Gravesend and it is said that lie may dispose of some of these at private sale. A number of yearlings belonging to A. L. Aste are expected at Gravesend shortly. Trainer C. Banks will look after their early education. AV. St. Vincent, the well-known western turfman, who had retired from racing, has returned to the sport and is now racing at Tijuana. He recently purchased the four-year-old plater Andy H. In the first race at Tijuana, Tuesday, November 21, the four-year-old filly Mllosy finished in last place instead of Milos Jr., which was incorrectly sent out from the track. That was Mllosys first start. Louis Martine, who has an admirably appointed training stable at Gravesend, has six thoroughbreds in his charge, and he boasts that lie has two of the best paddocks adjoining his stable which can be found on any of the Long Island tracks. A. L. Loudon, secretary, and George S. Kerr, solicitor of the Hamilton Jockey Club, accompanied by T. J. Stewart, M.P., are in Ottawa conferring with officers of the finance department as to the valuation for purposes of war taxation of the clubs plant. John Powers, who developed Jack Atkiu and many other good ones, has worked wonders with Leo-chares, and he has the old gelding looking better than he lias at any time in his strenuous racing career. He will be shipped to New Orleans at the close of the present Bowie meeting. A remarkably good-looking yearling in L. Mar-tines stable at Gravesend is a black colt by Plaudit Ivabel. by Ogden, out of Ivory Bells by Himyar. In addition to having a wonderfully good racing conformation this colt inherits two strains from that great progenitor of speed, Himyar. F. J. Hund is the name given by his new owner to the chestnut colt registered abroad as Le Manet, a yearling by San Antonio Fontaine Labbe. He was bought at the sale of the Delbert Reiff yearlings at Saratoga last August for ,100 by F. F. Tiglie, who turned him over to the care of trainer L. Martine, Another victory on the flat by a horse that has been running in steeplechases was recorded when the Northwood Stables three-year-old, Marcliena, beat Uncle Will and Royalist in the fifth race at Bowie Thursday. Her last three starts had been across country, and in one of them she fell, while she was unplaced in the others. Checks in payment of losses of the horses Running Shot and Ballygunge were delivered at the Bowie track yesterday. These horses, with a number of others, were destroyed in the disastrous fire of last Tuesday and were covered by Hartford insurance policies. These prompt adjustments were made by John A. Payne, who is now at the track. Trainer James Fitzsinimons intends to race a string of horses at either Havana or New Orleans during the winter. He has at present a large number of yearlings and two-year-olds quartered at the Gravesend track. Fitzsinimons thinks well of the two-year-old chestnut colt Gunrock by Rock Sand Gunfire, which J. E. Davis secured at the Sanford sale at Belmont Park for ,700.
