A straight tax of from one thousand dollars per day down to three hundred, according to the classification of the track, is what the race tracks of Quebec will be asked to contribute to the Provincial patriotic fund next season, according to the important changes which were adopted in the bill at Quebec. The four per cent, tax on money bets is eliminated, the Hon. Mr. Mitchell substituting a straight rate per racing day of ,000 in Montreal and environs and 500 per day in Quebec and district. Half-mile racing tracks charging not more than fiO cents admission will have to pay only 00 per day. This applies to tracks where the parl-mutuel machines operate. If other systems bookmaking or pool-selling are used the rate will be exactly double. In addition to the license fees, the duty of 0 per day for tracks in or around Montreal also goes into effect, and an amendment provides that the person who takes a bet otherwise than on a pari-mutuel machine must get a license of 00 per racing day, meaning the bookmakers.
