DEATH OF A CELEBRATED RACE MARE. Chevalier Ginistrellis famous mare, Signoriua, dropped dead at Newmarket, England, December 11. She was twenty-nine years old. By St. Simon Star of Portici, Signoriua was undefeated as a juevnile, winning nine races, which included the Middle Park Plate. As a four-year-old she secured the valuable Lancashire Plate, beating, among others, the celebrated horse Orme. Chevalier Ginistrelli bred .Signoriua, and, in his opinion, she was one of the most wonderful mares of all times. After her success in the Lancashire Plate he refused 00,000 for her. In 1905 Signorinas daughter, Signorinetta, won the Derby and Oaks. After she had won the Oaks the late King Edward sent for the Chevalier and warmly congratulated him on the mares success. Tliirtv thousand pounds was offered and refused for Signorinetta after she had brought off the double event. Subsequently she was put up to sale, and though withdrawn at 7.500 guineas, was disposed of a week later privately to Lord Rosebery.
