CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. The building of 150 more stalls at the Tijuana track has been ordered by President J. AV. Coffroth to care for the influx of horsemen, expected after the first of the year. Trainer Eathman, who is training the Cuban-owned horse Impcrator, has him looking quite fit. He lias put on considerable weight and appears ready to run. Rathman expects this horse to do great things during this meeting. The Reno Racing Commission recently reinstated jockeys J. Groth and J. Mclntyre. Grotii was ruled off for rough riding in the Nevada Derby last spring. The commission also restored to good standing T. Hatfield, who has a string of horses at Tijuana. Desert Gold, the New Zealand champion, has run twenty-eight races, of which she won twenty-two, was second five times, third once and. therefore, never out of tlie money in her career. Her success in the Champion Plate at the Wellington Racing Club meeting last month was her sixteenth consecutive victory. While Quebec legislated the bookmaker out of existence, it appears as if they left a wide-open hole for the public money to drop through, when they removed the limit on the amount to be deducted in the pari-mutuels by the various associations. A moderate profit would keep out the fly-by-nighters and get-rich-quick men. Toronto Globe. The Business Mens Racing Association of New Orleans will have close to 400,000 people from -which it may draw on to furnish the daily attendance at the Fair Grounds. The latest census estimate of New Orleans population, places the number at 371.-747. The tourist visitors will augment that total considerably.
