GOOD WEATHER PROSPECTS NEW ORLEANS TURFMEN HOPEFUL OF SUNSHINE AND A FAST TRACK. Another Appeal by Miss Jean Gordon — Grand Jury Takes No Action — Four Thousand-Dollar Race to Be Run Next Saturday. New Orleans, La., February 4.— After six weeks of unfavorable weather, there is a prospect that the remainder of the meeting will be with sunshine and a fast track, causing the racing to come into its own at the Fair Orounds. Karat befare in the history of winter racing in the Crescent City has equally adverse conditions prevailed for such a lengthy period. With the coming of good weather will come also a smart improvement in the sport, for it will enable the better class of hors- s. w hich have been forced into idleness, to start frequently, and it will, likewise, end the reign of ordinary platers which have really been the ii:mist.-y to late of the meeting. Interest is again being revived in the suit for a receiver for the Fair Orounds. instituted by Miss .lean Cordon. She again appealed to the Supreme Court to have the lower court try the case on its merits. It is not expected that the Sup-cine Court will pass on her appeal until well along in the summer. The expected investigation of the grand jury into tli Paha carden activities at the track has also been delayed on account of other matters taking tip the jurys attention. The grand jury has adjourned until Tuesday next and at that time they will also be occupied with other matters, it is said, so it is unlikely that it will investigate the alleged violations until late in the week. There were a number of departures this week of turf followers who left for the east, to be in close teach with their business intert ,-.ts during the present war crisis. Jefferson Livingston maintained his lead over the winning owners during the week and jockeys Kobinson and Cramp are still furnishing an interesting battle for riding honors. At present Robinsou is leading his younger rival by two wins. Congressman J. W. Loft departed Saturday afternoon for Washington to be in closer touch with government action during the present crisis. Trainer Max Hirsch. who is training his extensive stable, will leave tonight for New York and stop off at Lexington to look over some promising two-year-olds he contemplates purchasing. W. C. Semple claimed Mieo Girl after her victory Saturday for ,050. Jockey Crump had to cancel his riding engagements for Saturday afternoon on account of suffering from a heavy cold. Al Kurlen. who serves as assistant clerk of the acal - in Ni w feck tracks, was among the visitors coining here from Juarez. Ilaudito was claimed out of the seventh race Saturday by A. Luzadi 1 for 00. Cntrics to the Hotel Mens Handicap of .HH1 value, to be run next Saturday, closed Saturday afternoon.
