1 NOMINATIONS TO BIG FRENCH STAKES. The second Tuesday in September was the traditional date fixed for the entries for the Prix de Diane French Oaks ar.d the Prix du Jockey Club French Derby at Chantilly, while those for thi Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp were due a week later. They have only appeared in the "Bulletin" dated December U. No date for the races alluded to has been fixed, but in both , eases the minor forfeits of ten sovereigns ami * twenty sovereigns respectively have to be declared three days prior to the event. The minor forfeit of four sovereigns for the- Grand Prise has to be notified before ten p. m. on May 15. 1918. the see-olid forfeit of sixtee-n sovereigns on the Wcilmscla y pile i ding tlie race, and then non-starters have- to pay twenty sovereigns. There are a few m-w comers among the nominators for the Prix ch- Diane in 1918. Sana Baeyean has entered a filly. Mademoisille de Liege by Sunilrielge Mademoiselle de Lespinasse. and Lord Cloiiinell has two fillies engaged. La Pictoeuse by Roi Herode Ria -manteo and I.a Perls by Mithra HajBSait. J. I. Colin is one of the staunch patrons of racing. He has entered a round dozen fillies, .imoag them several from the stud of M. E. Veil Piearcl. leased by Mr. Colin for their racing career. Bunas Kdouard and Maurice de Bother MM, with W. K. Vanderbilt. have proved liln-ral subscribers, bringing up the entries to 111, or ten less than for the Derby, where the dozen actually selected by the Master of Chamant are numerically surpassed by Baron Edouard de Rothschild. There is a heay deficit in the entries for the Grand Prize of Paris in IMS; 1912 produced 002 entries, while those made last December only number for home breeders 243 and for English produce fifty-two. though more may come in from Italy. Belgium and New York. It seems that the only thing wanting mew-is the assent of the- Government of the Republic-.
