SARATOGA ASSOCIATION STAKE RACES. Twenty-One Events to Close for Entries March 12, with Increases Over Last Year. The Saratoga Association has announced its usual big list of stakes to be run next August. They close for entries March 12 and are everything that the most exacting horseman could derive. The association has been especially liberal, and money for the Saratoga Cup next August will be ,000. which is ,000 more than last year. Officials of the Saratoga Association h».vo followed the lead of the Westchester Racing Association in making the Alabama and Travers stakes futurity events. These are for three-yi ar-olds. and in addition to the entries for next August, closing on March 12, the entries for these races, to be run in MM and 1919. will close at the same time. Both events have Ik-cii changed from added money to guaranteed races. The Alabama, which is for fillies, will be worth . 000 this year. ,500 in MM and 0,000 in 1919. The Travers will be worth ,000 this year. 0,000 in 191S and 2,600 in 1919. The distance of the Alabama has been increased from a mile and an eighth to a mile and a quarter. The Saratoga Special, which was instituted by the late William C. Whitney with the idea of making it the richest sweepstakes in the country", will be greatly increased. Originally it called for a subscription of ,000, but this was cut down in recent years to 80. For the next running the subscription will be 00, so that it will be doubled in value.
