OLD ROSEBUD WINS AGAIN TAKES THE FEATURE RACE AT OAKLAWN AND FINISHES EASED UP. Hondo Recovers His Speed and Defeats Hazelnut, Then Is Claimed — Gibraltar Also Gains a New Owner After Winning — Track Gossip Hot Springs. Ark.. March 12. — Old Rosebud gave further evidence of his "come back" when he shouldered 130 pounds and galloped to an easy victory over some good opposition that included David Craig, Hob Heasler, lla—lla and Indolence. The Applegate crack showed extreme speed from the start, raced into a substantial lead at once, and was eased up in the stretch, to win by three lengths. David Craig, his closest pursuer for the entire race, just managing to outstay Bob Hens-ley. While the time, 1:15. was not much, still tin- manlier in which he won and considering the dull track, the performance was really a creditable one. He returned to the scabs without a sign of limp or distress, which augurs well for a continuance of his training soundly. Lowering clouds, threatening a downpour, did not have a deterring effect on the attendance and another splendid patronage was a feature. The course still showed traces of its recent drenching and was dull and devoid of springiness, though dry on the surface and firm. Outside of the handicap, which brought out the band of good sprinters, the remaining races on the card lacked merit and were devoid of any special feature. Twelve ordinary ones accepted the issue in the opener and it resulted in a victory for B. . Jones, one of the outsiders. Circulate and Easter Oreetings, also at long odds, taking the smaller portions of the pwrSS. P.en Hanipson. taxi and Rhymer were given most consideration in the second, but neither succeeded in landing a place, the winner turning up in Hondo, Which scored a fluky win from Hazelnut and Spectre. With a good ride Hazelnut would probably have won. Ophelia W. Outruns Mjco Girl. Ophelia W. and Mico Girl, respective first and second choices, finished in the order named in the third race. Balgee ran in his best form and it enabled him to lead for the entire way and win ■a Ma ridar ptaaaad in the fifth race. Manioc just managing to outstay First Star, the favorite, for second place. The first claim of the meeting was recorded after the second race, when O. E. Bshop took Hondo for . The program book for the next six days of racing was distributed to owners this afternoon. It shows an increase of SHOO for the week over the initial six days. The 00 addition daily will go to the feature race. W. O. Scully arrived from Havana with his entire string, consisting of Pin Money. The horse shipped well. Jockeys J. Carroll and J. Dominick, who came under the ban at Havana and who arrived here with the intention of riding, were informed they could not do so hccsaae of their suspension at the Cuban track. Fred W. ierhardy. who will serve as secretary at Essex Park, arrived yesterday and at once liegan taking note* with a view to assisting him in getting out the program book for Essex Park shortly. Jockey Lowder will not come here. He will report to trainer William Hurley at Charleston, where the Bradley racers are at present being prepared. The record number of layers for a Hot Springs track was recorded this afternoon, when thirty-five price inoters were in line. All reported a good bnsiaess. The matter of a presiding judge for Essex Park has not been decided on yet. An effort by that association to secure the most prominent one in the country is still on. H.
