FOUNTAIN FAY WORKS FAST. Runs a Mile in 1:46% Over Improving Track at Woodbine — Many Horses Out. Toronto, Ont., May .1. — The feature of Friday mornings work at Woodbine was the work of the Thorneliffe horses. Fountain Fay. now a steeplechaser, put in the fastest mile of the season in 1:10%. Britannia, a Kings llater. worked the same distance with King Hamburg in 1:4*% and is now considered a Contender for the Ouineas. Conditions were somewhat improved Thursday, but the improvement was nothing to haeet of. The smartest bit of work was the mile in 1:47%, shown by J. Whytes three-year-old filly Javato, accompanied the last three-«|Uarters by Cnrtley. This filly, by Ben Trova to Jaffa, was bred on the NesMtf Farm, near Montreal, and is a promising one for the home-bred races that will be numerous on the programs for the coming season. Gartley put in the three-quarters in 1:20%. The stable of Mr. Beardmore attracted some attention, too. by the demonstration that its members IM.ssess considerable speed. The Kings Platers E-td-der of Light and Fair Fox put in a half mile in .11% and three quarters in 1:24. Ringdove, a winner in two of her four starts last year, did her half in .10--, and three quarters in 1:19--. Altar Fire and Smarty Cat went a half in 84%, and three-quarters in 1:24. Except Fair Fox. all are the produce of Mrs. Livingstons Cobourg Farm, and look like more than useful horses. Bachelors Blend, one of the Irish horses, worked three eighths in 39, and Annie Edgar galloped a half in 87%. Opera Class, the Irish horse in the GiddiagS stable, put iii three-quarters in 1:21%. William Walker sent his good two-year-old Stanley Fay II. three-eighths in 41. Dandv Fay went a half in 68. The Hendrie colt Thoughtful went an easy half in ."iti. The three year old Starter, in "Wis" Sherrards string, pal in a mile in 1:84% handily. Cerf Volant and Red Post togc -titer covered a half in .13. Wattkeag. which looks like a good Derby arsaaed this year, went three quarters in 1:22 under restraint. Other work outs of yesterday included the fallowing: Amphion — Half mile in .10%.
