Tolon. owner of Imperator and Sir Wellons, was an arrival from Havana today and reported the numerous horses resting on the island were doing well. The Cubans, who have rapidly become adapted to. the thoroughbred sport, are anxiously awaiting the winter season of racing, which promises to be a banner one. N. Byer has taken over the three-year-old Fuge-Iad, the property of A. J. Davis. I. M. Hedrick, who purchased Little Boy a half hour before the running of the last race yesterday, claimed R. T. Wilsons Sunrose out of that race for 50. Walter House purchased the two-year-old Fragonard from August Belmont at private sale and the youngster bore his colors in the Woodhaven Selling Stakes. J. Temple Gwathmey and W. A. Prime were visitors at the track during the afternoon, while William Starr came on from Montreal to round out the season on the New York courses. The horsemen stabling at Belmont Park staged a mixed program of pony races at that track after the races last night, which attracted 2,500 residents of the village of Queens and nearby towns. The feature pony race went to Gifford A. Cochrans White Sox, which was victorious in this race last year. The track has been made over thoroughly and horsemen will find it the equal, if not the superior, of any half mile track in the country, with many of the requisites and accommodations of the more ambitious racing ventures. In a way it will be a novel experience to New York racing patrons, who, used to the expansive courses of the metropolitan racing district, will get a "close up," which should add interest and excitement to the sport.
