NO FAVORITES AFTERNOON Jefferson Park Choices Prove De- luders to Their Backers. Brian Boru Takes a Race at Last Dolina First in the Feature Race. - New Orleans, La., December 27.. .Todays card on the whole was about the worst staged during the present meeting and it afforded opportunity for about the noorest racers in these parts to break into the winning rank. Three of the races were contested by previous starters, but non-winners at the meeting. A maiden race was an added affliction. Five of the dashes, had claiming clauses, but there was no activity during the afternoon in this line. The fourtlt race brought out a fairish band of platers and it resulted in a victory for Dolina, which ran in her best form and showed well in the going. She beat Merchant, the favorite, with Paw heading the others. The local contingent gave the ring a hard jolt in the fifth race when Rrian Roru outstayed Napoleon to win by a half length. Despite his numerous defeats, he continues to be a local favorite and absorbs a world of support with eacli start. He ran in the interest of J. M. Rooker and was a prominent contender front the start. Another blow that the layers received was through the victory of Sandy Lad in the second race. His owner is a nearby resident and the horses victory was attended by a demonstration that wits. wdrtliy of a. Derby crowd paying homage to a "winner of that much coveted event. Sandy Lad was the most pronounced favorite of the afternoon to come home in front. . . Choices began their downfall in the opening race when Lady .Eileen" could do no better than finish third. Partisan winning with much speed to spare. Lynn, In the third race, came with a, rush in the stretch, which landed him a winner over the favorite Tarletori P. LITTLE COTTAGE SCORES EASILY. Little Cottage and Duke of Shelby absorlied the main support in the sixth race, "but the Duke never figured in the running and Little Cottage -came home unattended. There were thirty-three layers in line this afternoon and most of them fared excellently through the defeat of four favorites and a lack of support for most of the victors. Only fifteen nominations were made to the New Years Handicap of ,500 added, at one mile, fur three-year-olds and over, that features the fawning days racing at the Fair Grounds. The - field will come from the following:... Whirling Dun, Libyan Sands, Lady Rotha, Harry Shaw, Cracow, Polroma, Hauberk. Cheer Leader. Woodstone, Dick Williams. Hob Hensley, J." J. Lillis, Sasin, Assume and Lang-den. Joint Lowe has contracted with George Strate for first call on jockey A. Johnsons services during the Fair Grounds meeting. Jockey Lykes will do most of the riding for C. Ruxton during the Fair Grounds meeting. Pan Zareta is again reported to be in a bad way and showed a high temperature during the night, but it was reduced some this afternoon. The inaip came here ailing and has not done well during her sojourn here. . Raby Lynch has been taken over by II. W. Warner. . . Marion Goosby will probably be out of training for some time because of a spread foot.. .TJia ailment developed this morning. f
