CHEER LEADER MUCH IMPROVED HORSE His Performances at Jefferson Park High-Class Five Straight Victories to His Credit. The victory of Cheer Leader in the Christinas Handicap at Jefferson Park has brought this three-year-old Ogden gelding in the limelight. In Kentucky Cheer Leader was rated among the cheap selling plater variety and his racing on that circuit justified that classification. However, it is an entirely different story to tell of the performances of Cheer Leader since he began racing at Jefferson Park. Cheer Leaders first start at the present meeting was in a mile and seventy yards dash, in which he was a rank outsider in the betting, but the finish found Cheer Leader an easy winner over Libyan Sands and Lazy Lou. The public failed to take proper notice of his good race on that occasion and when Cheer Leader faced the starter again lie received scant support which, however, did not prevent him winning again. He scored in hollow fashion over "Warsaw and Woodward. A few days later Cheer Leader started in the Hopeful Purse, .a mile dash for two and three-year-olds, and the result was another victory in the most convincing manner, six lengths being the margin separating him from his opponents at the end. His next start was in the Mayor Rehrman Handicap at one mile and on the strength of his three straight successes, went to the post a well-backed choice. He fully justified the confidence reposed in him by running probably the best race of his career and, in a sensational closing drive, scored a nose victory over Dick Williams, with Polroma third, a short distance away. His success in the Christmas Handicap followed and it appears that it will take a much better horse to defeat him than those which have opposed hint in his recent races. Whether Cheer leader will be able to continue his winning ways when the racing shifts to the Fair Grounds, where he. will be called on to meet horses of the better grade and over a much faster track, remains to be seen. In the meantime there is no doubt that Cheer Leader is a vastly improved horse and it may be that he will go on and develop into a racer of exceptional merit a
