; 1 ■ [ . RACING PLANS OF WINGFIELD STABLE Eastern Division Will Begin at Havre and Continue on to Saratoga — Latest Western Gossip. Reno. New. April 15. — A pretentious campaign has been maimed out for the band of thoroughbreds recently shiimed from Pleasanton. where they wintered, to "Havre de Grace. Maryland, by George Wiugfield. proprietor of the Nevada Stock Farm. The shipment, which was iu charge of trainer Enrlv Wright, arrived safely. It is composed as follows: Bank. Toniholo. Square Set. Slippery Elm. Star Shooter. Lycia. Miss Fielder and the two-year-olds. Snow Queen and Carey Maid, both of which were bred at the Nevada Stock Farm. The riding for the stable will be done by jockeys Mclntyre and Troxler. the latter of whom is riding in fine form at the Bowie meeting. The eastern campaign will start at Havre de Grace April 16 and will be continued at Jamaica. The Wiugfield horses have been assigned stable No. 20 at Belmont Iark and will lie quartered thereuntil the Empire City meeting, whence they will be siiipped to Saratoga. The chief hoi*- of the stable is the three -year -old colt Toniholo. by Grey Leg — Berhina. and which has b"cn entered iii many important stakes for three -year-olds in the country, including the Latonia Derby and the Dwyer Stakes. Touibolos first start will be in the rich Preak-ness. to be decided at Pimlico May lo. Another horse of which great things are expected is the four-year-old Square Set. which has finished into a magnificent animal and which is expected to make his mark in the handicap division. In connection with Toinbolo. it may be mentioned that Walter Jennings, trainer for A. K. Ma-comber, has offered the services of jockey Ixiftus. Americas premier rider, to ride Tombolo in any race in which a Macomber horse isnt taking part. Wiugfield is highly gratified at Jennings offer, and thinks that it is as great a compliment to his colt as could possibly be paid. The following horses belonging to Wingfield arrived here from Plensantoii last Friday: The two-year-olds Ladysmith, Fireplace, Hipper -dozer. Perplex and Tabulator. The three-year-old Tickford and the four-year-old If Coming. The stallion Atheling also arrived and the broodmares Emerald Isle. Chocolate Lady, Lady Souffle, Jeauuc dArc. sV.irlet Oaks. Cladiol:., Celesta, Ma, Envy. Thistle Belle and Sugar Maid. Jeanne dArc has a foal at foot by Honeywood and has been bred to Atheling. as have Emeral Isle. Scarlet Oaks. Gladioln, Celesta, Ida, Envy. Thistle Belle and Sugar Maid. Minnow is at the Wickkiup Stock Farm, owned by J. H. Rosseter. VALUABLE POLYMELUS FOAL DEAD. J. H. Rosseters Roman Lady dropped a colt foal to Honeywood March 28. All sportsmen will regret to learn that Bernina. d-tm of" Tombolo. foaled to Polymelus last Friday n:or:iing and that the foal died shortly after. Polymelus is the sire of Honeywood, and one of the leading English sires. Great things were naturally e:;|iected of the result of the union with Bernina. bu* such is- the lottery of breeding and George Wiugfield is far too good a sportsman to cry over spilled milk. Bernina is by St. Serf — Miss Taylor. There are twelve of the Nevada Stock Farm thoroughbreds at present in training at the local track, in charge of George W. Berry, superintendent of the stock farm. They are as follows: The two-vear-olds Dutch Lady. Fireplace. Perplex. Ladysmith. Tabulator. Hipperdozer. Dora Starr. Dinah and Desert Rose; the three-year-olds Tickford and Divland. and the four-year -old If Coming. Divland and Dinah are owned by W. F. Echols, a local sportsman. Trainer Berry expects to have this string in the besi of condition to give a good account of them-s-lves at the coming Reno meeting. The stable riding will be done by jockeys Ira tiregorv and Arthur Aguayo. Trainer Berry has secured from Dr. P. E. Schwarts the contract of Gregory, a promising apprentice, and he will commence work 1 1 slay. . Aguayo is an old-time rider, who has worked for Berry before, notably when the latter had charge of liie horses of A. B. Spreckels. Already the announcement of the local meeting, to commence June 15. is attracting widespread attention among horsemen. A shipment of seven horses has arrived from Tijuana, including Laura Miller and Gasket the latter a frequent winner on the local track Honolulu Boy. owned by Tyrou and Mal-lov is also expected from Hot Springs. Ninety-five horses are shortly exacted to arrive from Tijuana. There are already about fifty horses in training at the local track and the number will be steadily increased from now on. Hal Booker has Fitzgerald and three fillies of Dr. George E. Bamberger, who also owns the two-year-old Codfish, by Deutsculand — Avona. There is a probability that M. P. Giiilliams. well-known local horseman, may race a few horses at the coming meeting. It is several years since Guil-! liams campaigned any of his own. Tolie Ramsey has engaged five stalls at the local track for his horses, which are coming from Hot Springs.
