The improving track was responsible for a better brand of racing than has been witnessed here in several weeks despite that ordinary starters contested the various dashes. Weather conditions were in keeping and the balmy atmosphere was responsible for an exceptionally large attendance. C. Robinson again was in the limelight and took his entry into the ranks of jockeys proper, when lie graduated from the apprentice class under the eastern rules "when he brought Poverina home. Carrying the colors of Phil T. Chinn, this victory marked his fortieth -success and deprived him of his five pounds allowance. Minawand. after numerous attempts, finally managed to win when she led Phantom Slaid home in the second race. The latter was a big favorite and the easterners lost heavily by her defeat. The ring scouts report of the incident caused Old Dens odds to tumble shandy. DIFFICULTY FILLING PROGRAMS. Considerable difficulty was again experienced by secretary McLennan in having his carded program for tomorrow filled. The ten dollar entrance rule seems to be a bone of contention; but why this should be so is mystifying, as the horsemen get this money back with the purse. Several other grievances are being aired by the horsemen and lias resulted in J. S. Wallace, representative of the Thoroughbred Horse Association, being given authority by the executive committee at Lexington to hold a meeting Slonday night. The .intent of the call is for the collection of membership dues and discussion of such other business as properly comes before the meeting. Sloose Hall lias lieen engaged for the purpose, but none but members of the Thoroughbred Horse Association in good standing "will be permitted to attend. John Fay was among the visitors, having stopped off on his way from California. Patsy SIcDermott, a star rider in the early nineties, is desirous of securing the contract on jockey C. Robinson. He is acting for some English racing patron, and the youngster will, if his contract is secured from- E. W. Sloore the present holder, ride in England. Trainer F. W. Staton is confined to his home witli an attaqk of influenza. J. , B, Goodman has taken over the? Statdn horses. Jockey J. Scott is seriously ill with influenza at a local hospital and his parents in Guelpli, Ontario, have been notified of his condition. J. Bowser has bought Tom Anderson from Slessrs. C. and E. Baker on private terms.
