GENERAL NEWS NOTES OF THE DAY SEATTLE, Wash., February 7. No move had been made today toward a settlement of Seattles general strike called yesterday by organized labor in sympathy -with 2.-1,000 metal tradesmen, who have been idle two weeks. Two vice-presidents of the American Federation of Labor are- reported on their way here- from the east aud another is declared to have arrived here for the pupose of aiding in settling the dispute. So far no official move nas been made by either side to seek a conference. Seattle business men and Mayor Hansen are not expecting an early settement of the strike. LONDON, England. February 7. Great Britains red terror, arising from strikes inspired by Bolshevik leaders, is waning. Subways were again in operation today after being idle for two days, and it is believed that the steam railroads, which were tied up by strike troubles, will have resumed within twenty-four hours. The governments determination to smash Bolshevikism and arrest the leaders is expected to frustrate the threatened strike of the electrical workers, who declare they would plunge the city into darkness. WASHINGTON, I. C, February 7. A new offering of treasury certificates of indebtedness in anticipation of the next national loan was announced this afternoon by Secretary Glass. The issue is for 00,000,000, is dated from February 13 and will mature July 15 of this year. The certificates carry four and one-half per cent interest. Opportunities to buy will close February 20. The issue carries the same tax exemptions and are in the same denominations as previous issues. BERLIN, Germany via London, February 7. Four civilians and one sailor were killed and twelve persons were wounded in a clash between government forces and Sparticides in Hamburg today. Two thousand Sparticides marched to government headquarters in Hamburg to protest against the shipment of food from Kiel to Bremen. The food was intended for government forces that have been engaging the Spartacides in battle at Bremen. WEIMAR. Germany, February 7. The Ebert government is preparing for a conquest of Hamburg similar to that carried out against the Sparticides at Bremen. The" cabinet lias decided that it is necessary to maintain control of the ports owing to the expected arrival of food ships from the entente. The cabinet was advised today that the Sparticides in Hamburg are. frantically organizing themselves for defense against government troops. HAMBURG. Germany, February 7. The Spartacides are threatening to shoot every third person and imprison every fifth among the railroad workers who refuse to transport red troops toward Bremen. The Sparticides arc threatening also to withhold bred cards. The Sparticides seized the arms from rear patrols of the Seventy-Sixth Infantry and attacked food stores, but were repulsed. Then" they threatened to set fire to warehouses.
