CUDGEL NOT TO RACE BEFORE AUGUST NEAV YORK N Y June 20 AVhcn Motor Cop and Billy Kelly were withdrawn from the Rainbow Handicap it was surmised that they had been attacked by the prevailing influenza Asked If the surmise were correct II J Bedwell their trainer who repliedNo is a pharmacist replied No that was not the reason There is nothing the matter with them I just concluded not to start them AVith the excepion of Cudgel my horses are all well lie had about as bad a cough as any horse ever did have and recover but he is nil right now and so lively that he can hardly keep on the ground I will have to go slowly with him and lie may not start before Saratoga SaratogaThe The influenza that is affecting the horses is similar to that which affected humanity for a year or more I treated quite a iiiiintier of cases Sev ¬ eral of my horses were sick One died and we opened him AVe found his lungs perforated and spotted
