DOUBLE VICTORY FOR S. C. HILDRETH Lord Brighton Furnishes Surprise in the Arvorne Handicap Three Straight for Audacious. NEW YORK, N. Y., September 17. The Arverno Handicap, at three-quarters of a mile, todays feature at Aqueduct and worth ,!75 to the winner, brought out a good field of speedy horses. The result was a surprise, however, when S. C. Hil-dreths Lord Brighton, practically neglected by the oral simulators, showed a game performance to beat Enfilade in the last few strides. The latter dashed into an early loni; lead and looked like a winner an eighth out, but Lord Brighton, closing with great speed and courage, outlasted the filly in a hard drive. Ilollister was third. Jock Scot, the favorite, was never in a contending position. The first race, which was for two-year-olds, went to E. R. Thomas Sand Bed, which was the medium of heavy support at liberal odds. In the stretch drive he outstayed Bright Gold, after being a forward contender throughout. Audacious showed that he is in rare form at present by winning his third consecutive race when he scored in the Exile Handicap at one mile. Away well, he was never headed, winning with something to spare. Only four faced the starter in this nice. L. Waterburys Nightstick was most fancied in the third race, although Arnold did not lack supporters. The favorite quit in the stretch, while Arnold gamely resisted the belated challenge of Tenons Bon and earned the decision by a small margin. A long shot in Litholick beat the favorite, P. G. King, by a neck in the fifth, and Mad Hatter scored in runaway fashion in the final race, making it a double for the Ilildreth stable. The weather was of the midsummer variety and the attendance was unusually good. Jules G arson is reported as being seriously ill at his home. Two of todays winners were saddled by J. L. MeGinnls. Lady Ward, a mare belonging to Eugene Lutz, was badly kicked while at the post in her last race and may not race again for some time. Fasig-Tipton Company will hold a sale of horses in training September 25 at Aqueduct. Included will 1m eight two-year-old from the A. K. Macomber stable that have never started and eight from the Bevorwyck Stable. Tombolo dropped dead near the finish of the sixth racOi. Itwas jlue to his-. bleeding inwardly... 4.
