FROM SENATOR VESTS DOG TRIBUTE "There is no divorce in the attachment of a dog to ltis master. It is for better, for worse, and until death part i-o far as the dog himself is concerned. There is no self-interest in that attachment. The poorest dog, starved, abused, still will hold . faitli under this ancient and mysterious contract; Sothetitnes. of Course; a dog must change masters, biit loyalty of his species to our siecies lie always gives. His trust and confidence iu us, liis endurance of our injustices, our cruelties none of these things alters him. none serves to shako him in his ancient, reverent loyalty. We cannot call such, faith a tiling undertaken for gain."
