1 PLURIBUS, HANOVER LINE HORSE OBRIENS GOOD COLT IS EXCEPTIONALLY WELL BRED AND IS LIKELY TO CARRY ON THE INFLUENCE OF HIS DISTINGUISHED ANCESTOR. By EXILE There is life- in the old dog yet. The appearance of the Whirl Stakes winner at Empire City, Pluribus, Is of more far-reaching importance than at. first might lie supposed, for it is through him and his sire. Pluvious., that the Hanover line may yet be saved. Pluvious, I find, is a twelve-year-old son of Inflexible Tcnebrae, by. St. Carlo, but of the present whereabouts of Pluvious I am in ignorance; for all this he is more than a well-bred horse and well worthy of patronage, if only on account of his Hanover descent, as a sire. Inflexible, sire of Pluvious, was a really good winner as a two-year-old, but, unfortunately, died when but nine years of age. He was by Hamburg Berriedale, by the Derby and St. Leger winner, Donovan, and a member of the extra good sire line of Beeswing, to which trace so many good sires, notably Sweep, Ayrshire. Melton, St. Serf, Perth and Newniinster. So fai so good, and Pluvious a member of the Kelpie, by Bonnie Scotland, branch of the Levity family, and Kelpie the dam of Duke of Montrose. Well do I know Levity is not favored as a sire family, but every effort should be made and everything made the best of in an attempt to save Hanover. Here is a point," too, which must not be overlooked. Botli Pluvious and his son Pluribus are of the true chestnut Hanover-Gleiicoe shading. Sylvita, dam of Pluribus, is a daughter of the Futurity winner Electioneer, son of Voter and Quesal, dam of Tommy Atkins, by Dominos sire Himyar and Sylvita, a member of the Dixie, by Sovereign, branch of the No. 1 family. Dixies imported ancestress being Vamp, whose dam was Wire, sister to ... those equine celebrities Whalebone and Whisker. .Carmen Sylva, granddam of Pluribus, is by St. Carlo again. Really it is amazing how. often a return of blood from dam to dam of sire results in something of good racing merit, and St. Carlo, one of the best-bred sons of the Hermit horse, St. Blaise, for his dam, Carina, is by Kingfisher, the best-bred and most sucessful brood mare sire Lexington ever begot, and St. .Carlos ancestress, Camilla, by King Tom Sapientia, which follows, was sired by Wisdom and her dam, Lady Emily, sister to the silver-tailed Charaxus, and this the Virginia by Rowton branch of the No. 4 family, the family, of Rock Sand, Tredennis, Sea Breeze, Thebais, Dagor, War Cloud and this years Debutante Stakes winner Bit of White. Truly the unexpected has again happened. Just when I was begininng to think the Hanover line gone beyond recall up it bobs again serenely, and nothing that lias happened, recently in bloodstock breeding gives me more pleasure than to know that the line of Hanover still lives, and right here I bespeak for Pluvious, and when the time comes, for his son Pluribus, liberal patronage on the part of our breeders, as sires, for here is the unlooked-for chance of Hanovers salvation.
