MILITARY RACE AT SARATOGA The National Remount Association, which has active charge of the breeding of horses sutiable for cavalry remounts, is on record as stating that between 100 and . .150 thoroughbred stallions will be needed next spring in order to conduct a general program of breeding throughout the Union. Witli a view to: rendering every assistance to the movement, the various racing associations, at the .behest of The Jockey Club have pledged themselves to offer races for horses which would be . suitable to a place in the stud, in localities where- mares of the proper type to throw remounts may he! had. The first of these contests will be run at - tile current meeting of the Saratoga Association for the Improvement of the Breeds of Horses oil Friday, August 27, and everybody hopes that turfmen will enter liberally. The conditions follow: "Military race for three-year-olds and over entire horses. Entrance fee, 0. Purse ,000 to the winner, the second horse to take the entrance ; fees. Three-year-olds to carry 10S pounds, others 115 pounds. The United States government to have the option for seven days of purchasing the winner for 25. The winner, if not taken by the government, to be ineligible to enter in any race of a similar character. One mile." Similar races will be given at Belmont Park, Aqueduct aiuT Jamaica, and it is expected that Maryland will fall in line likewise.
