5,000 STAKE FOR SARATOGA Officials Are Laying Plans to Run One of Richest Races in World at Spa in 1923. NEW YORK, N. Y., September .". Unless present plans miscarry, the Saratoga Racing Association for the Improvement of the Breed of Horses will have a 0,000 or 5,000 added stake on its roster at no far distant period. President It. T. Wilson and his associates in the organization have held several conferences with a view to arranging details for the proposed rich event. Thus far, however, nothing defnite has been announced as regards conditions. It is the general opinion of those interested in the proposed big race that the conditions and distance provisions should be so framed as to attract breeders and horsemen of England and France as well as the best of American thoroughbreds. Whether the race will be exclusively for three-year-olds or open to the older division as well has not yet been decided. The consensus seems to be in favor of a handicap for three-year-olds and over for the Saratoga Cup route of one and three-quarter miles. The plans for the proposed stake will be held in abeyance until every person interested has a chance to express his views. The conditions will be announced as soon as an agreement is reached on the distance and age features.
