Georgie Wins Cedarhurst Handicap Easily After Two Feathers Dwells at the Post. "jf ! n m NEW YORK, X. Y., September 9. No outstanding feature marked the card at Belmont Park today, but the fields, on the whole, were better filled than at any time during the early part of the week and there were only three absentees from the afternoons dashes. A larger crowd than has visited the course in several days turned out and there was much activity on the lawn. The track was in good condition. The Redstone Stables Star Shoot gelding Georgie, which defeated Audacious impressively in his last appearance, raced a good mile to take the Cedarhurst Handicap, which occupied- the feature position on the card, from Dream of the Yalley. Two Feathers, the only other starter, dwelt at the start and and could never work into contention. Georgie got away" in front, but gave way to Dream of the Yalley before running an eighth. Then he , continued in close pursuit to the stretch, where he passed his opponent under a mild drive. Sande had him eased up at the finish. Dream of the Valley, as usual, displayed- great speed through the early running, but when It cam to a drive in the stretch he could produce no reserve speed- :Htl SVier-iiinbed easily to Georgie1.- Two Feathers never had a chance after the start. He was "so far behind the others when he finally made up his mind to run that no amount of sprinting could bring him to the leaders. He was five lengths behind Dream of the Valley at the end. Tufter showed marvelous improvement over his last race in beating Sunnyland, eased up by sir lengths in fast time in the fifth race, a selling dash at a mile and a sixteenth. Dark Hill was the only other starter. He followed Sunnyland two lengths back at the finish. Tufter rushed to the front immediately and steadily drew away. Sunnyland moved up menacingly on the stretch turn and made a game effort to overhaul the leader, but Tufter held his advantage easily and had speed iu reserve at the end. MADEMOISELLE CADEAU PROVES BEST. Mademoiselle Cadeau proved herself much the best of the four starters in the second race at one mile. Court Aiew got away fast and held the lead until on the last turn, where the winner slipped through on the inside and drew away into a sis lengths lead at the end. Court View was an easy second, four lengths ahead of Joau Marie. Manda-lay did not figure and quit in the stretch. Nose Dive, racing for the first time in the colors of his new owner, R. V. Boyle, came up with a rush in the stretch to pass Bayonne and take the third race by a length and a half. The race was at five and a half furlongs for two-year-old maidens. Finality finished third. Bayonne was rushed into the lead soon after the start and held her advantage until in the stretch, where she was unable to withstand Nose Dives fine burst of speed. Overtake, the favorite, was unable to enter into real contention at any time. The Marrone Stables Ogden Broom Leaf colt Whisk showed great improvement over his last start to win the Ronkonkoma, a seven-eighths of a mile selling handicap, first on the card, from a good band of platers. Carpet Sweeper finished second and Valor, the favorite, third. Whisk was kept in a contending position from the start, took the lead in the final eighth, withstood a sharp challenge from Valor and held his advantage at the finish against the threatening bid of the fast finishing Carpet Sweeper. Scarcely a length separated the three placed horses at the end. Valor, backed into favoritism, drew shouts of encouragement from his supporters as he swept through the stretch with a rush, and pulled up close to the leader. For a brief space it seemed that he must cross the line a winner, but the veteran was not equal to the effort. He tired, fell back and lost second place to Carpet Sweeper, which had closed a big gap and still appeared fresh at the finish. Mary Patricia, carrying the silks of James Mac-Manus, just lasted to defeat H. C. Fishers Violinist by a head in the final race, a dash under selling conditions at five and a half furlongs. Knot Grass was third. INTERFERENCE BEATS VIOLINIST. A field of ten two-year-olds faced the starter in this dash. Mary Patricia was kept will in con- tcntion from the start and she responded with courage when called upon in the stretch run. She- was ridden out at the end, however, and could scarcely have won if Aiolinist had not met with repeated interference in the stretch. After bumping his way through he closed rapidly through the final eighth and would have won in a few more strides. J. Richardsons platers, Care Free and Timbrel, have developed leg trouble and will be out of training for a long period. The yearling colt by Short Grass Fern Louise, purchased by J. F. Flanagan, Jr., at the Saratoga sales, lias been turned over to B. L. Cole to break and train. The colt is one of the largest yearlings of the year and is destined to be trained as a jumper. H. C. Fishers Sporting Blood has been turned over to AVilliam Booth to train. Booth has opened . a public training stable in connection with his regular work for the Redstone Stable. AV. C. AAinfrey, who has been campaigning bis four liorses on Canadian circuits, was a visitor at the track today. His horses have been sent to Havre de Grace. M. C. Hirsch has purchased the contract on jockey B. Marinelli from E. B. Soule. MarlneUi is tie years leading rider on the basis of winning mounts. James Rowe has shipped the two-year-old Yankee Maid and Trysting to Kentucky. They will be retired from racing.
