CLOSE LATONIA FINISHES i i Cho Chos Brother, Pindar Peel, Wins, but by Inches Only. i i Rouleau Confirms His Present Good Form in the Feature Adonis Beats Lady Madcap. LATONIA, Ky., September 22. Rough going that prevailed this afternoon did not serve as puzzling as was expected to the speculatively inclined who visited Latonia this afternoon, for they managed to find the winners frequently and the confident support accorded them resulted in short odds ruling against them. Considering the severe track a fairly good class of starters contested in most of the dashes. Weather conditions were poafect for the sport and contributed extensively towards bringing out a bumper attendance. Montfort Jones daily success came on this occasion in the feature, a purse race at one mile, with Rouleau the one to carry the purple and lavender silks to victory. Six started in the race, with Mile. Dazie slightly better backed than Rouleau, but in the running Rouleau clearly showed Ms superiority and drew away in the stretch to win as ids rider pleased. Mile. Dazie, after a trying race, finished in second plac, with Ben Valet taking third. The preceding race, at three-quarters of a mile., found another favorite downed, but the victor, Adonis, was only slightly less in esteem than Lady Madcap, which ruled the choice. Lady Madcaps failure was in nowise due to her lack of speed, hut partly the result of her inability to leave the post on, even terms with Adonis. She closed an immense gap after making her "slow beginning but tired just enough in the last eighth to enable the energetic Lyko to keep Adonis in front until the finish. The. much-talked-of Pindar Peel, brother to the speedy Cho Cho, graduated from the maiden ranks by winning the second race, but he gave his backers an anxious period in the last eighth when Demos began pressing him closely. On his showing this afternoon Pindar Ieel is much below what he is held to be by the tipsters, lie just did manage to witi. Frank .T. Brucn, manager of the Cuba-American Jockey Club, who was expected to reach here today, wired this morning from New York to judge Charles II. Lansdalc that he would be in Latonia next Monday or Tuesday. HORSES ARRIVE FROM TORONTO. O. Johnson arrived this morning from Toronto with the horses Murray, Dancer and Loch Loven, the property of R. F. Coppage. John Reed is a recent arrival with the once good horse Ormonda, belonging to M. Quinn of Kansas City. Prosperity went to R. Davics head, for, after winning a race yesterday with Image, he reported today at the scales in an unfit condition to ride. The stewards suspended him for the remainder of the meeting. The opening dash brought the downfall of Columbia Tenn, on which Taylor had the mount. Rapid Stride was the victor here over Mabel G., with Columbia Tenn third. Taylor appeared to make an ineffectual effort to impede Rapid Stride at several points in the race. Honolulu Hoy was the medium for heavy backing in the third race and he made good from the ordinary ones he met here, Nordeck being his closest follower, with Tulsa in third place. The two-year-olds in the sixth race staged a closely contested race, the field of nine starters being closely grouped for the entire distance. Racing luck favored Smiling Lad, which eventually won from Llewellyn, with the outsider Foy closely after them. The Mrs. J. Phillips colors, which have figured prominently during this meeting, was again conspicuous, and Pit, carrying tlum, won a hard-fought contest when he overhauled the suddenly improved J. C. Stone in the closing dash. Alex Jr. was unlucky to lose here and but for being sharply cut off at the half-mile ground would have won.
