BELMONT PARK STATISTICS I total of 17,301 Distributed During Thirteen I Days of Racing The Winners. A grand total of 17,301 was distributed in i stakes and purses by the Westchester Racing Association during the thirteen days fall meeting at t Belmont Park, which was held from September 2 " to September 16. There were :seventy-elght races run and the daily average distribution amounted to 6;715. The disquieting note of the meeting was the too liberal use of the blue pencil by owners in i scratching their horses from races that before their r withdrawal looked particularly attractive. So much , of this was done that the stewards were forced to change and make more stringent the rules governing the withdrawals of horses from overnight t races. Aside from the small fields, the racing r was of the usual high standard always maintained 1 on the metropolitan courses. The Futurity attracted one of the largest fields in its history and provided , . a contest in keeping with its best traditions. That 1 tliis noted race has lost none of its popularity was strikingly illustrated when 2.1,000 or more people s witnessed its running nod cheered .the winner. IT. I. Whitney was the largest money winner . during the meeting, Bunting and his stablomates t accounting for 0,500, wh"le the Itancocas establishment had to be content with second place, with J 320,313 to its credit.
