RANCOCAS JINX DEPARTS Losing Streak of Hildreth Stable Broken by Double Victory. Largest Crowd of Meeting Present - Enthusiasm Runs High When - Favorites Win. NEW YORK, N. Y., October 12. The Rancocas jinx faded out of the racing picture at Jamaica today. Thunderclap smashed it into bits by winning tho Columbus Day Highweight Handicap, and Mad Hatter proved that the jinx was really hora de combat by outrunning his two opponents all the way in the October Handicap, which featured the card. The holiday brought the largest crowd of the meeting to the track in spite of the counter attraction of the worlds series. Ho was a trifle slow in getting away as a result of his antics, hut he quickly overtook Donuacona in the racing to the first turn, and was not in danger thereafter:" Mad Hatter was quoted at odds-on and there was little lawn activity in his-behalf. Sedgefield drew considerable support - and liia price dropped rapidly to the close of the betting. Mad Hatter covered the mile and a sixteenth in 1:40. He was not extended in making this time. Saude held Thunderclap under restraint behind Dimmes-ilale and Ten-Lee through the early part of the rare, but moved up rapidly on the turn. Ten-Lec was badly crowded when Thunderclap bore over entering the. straightaway, but she was already beaten at the time. The Foreign Stable filly showed a fine flash of speed in the first half-mile, .but she began to show signs of distress on the turn, and although she hung on with rare courage when Thunderclap and Dimmesdale challenged, she was tiring. Dream of the Valley was left at the post and War Pennant, the only other starter, was plainly outclassed. Turner, after two days of poor success in the saddle, came back into his sensational riding form of last week. He completed a double with Tufter iu the fiftii race. Tufter raced Sea Sinner into deicat on the back stretch and withstood a challenge by. Bruniudo on the. turn. He held an advantage of two lengths over the French horse at the finish, while Sea Hlhner, spent by his early efforts, was a distant follower. BRUM ADO ONLY FAVORITE BEATEN. Tufttrs victory over Brumado marked tne only defeat of the day for a fovorite. Nolawn bogan to draw away through the backstretch, but when La Kross and Taa II. moved up ou tho turn with Htrone challenges lie quit badly.
