Mr. Coffroth expects that practically all the good horses of New Orleans winter racing will get to Tijuana in February or March. The 0,000 Coffroth Handicap will be decided toward the end of March or early in April. Most of the competitors for the Tijuana stakes will come from the East and the middle AVest. There are only a few racers of high class among the campaigners that have been bushing it over the Rocky Mountain and western Canadian circuits. These far westerners are most It second and third raters, the sort that are needed at winter tracks to fill overnight programs. EASTERN ADVANCE GUARD ARRIVE. With more than 300 horses stabled at Tijuana ho border track has. taken on a, busy appearance these days. The majority of the thoroughbhrcrd.s on the ground are those which have been racing in the AVest and Northwest Canada. However, the advance guard of the eastern shipment has commenced and daily one or more carloads have been arriving from the other side of the Rockies. In a carload which arrived today from eastern Canada came the horses the property of C. Trby and AA L. Stanfield. The former brought Caval-cadour II., Madrono, General Agramonte, Pueblo, Miss Cook, Rose Atkin and Dr. Stevenson. Stan-field is represented by Yermak, Cook.. Maid and the Toronto Cup winner, Louis. William "Red" Walker, who got in last week with Chow, Circus and Star Realm; intends grooming the latter for .action in the big stakes which will be decided during the winter. Walker has also taken up Don Dodge and Hamilton Al,. which have l-.pen turned out since last winter. Both of these hoiess. were fired as a cure for ankle trouble and AValker is of the opinion that they will come to hand ureter patient training and prove to be useful racing tools. The good horse Be Frank, owned by George P. Fuller, the San Francisco sportsman, is- .an.qther which lias been put in training after a summer of inactivity; Be Frank, after winning lst year 20,000 Coffroth Handicap, went wrong, which necessitated; the use of the firing irons. This strapping son of Sir John Johnson has been benefited by his rest and looks the picture of health. His coat fairly radiates with a healthy glow and those who have him in charge say that during his long slow gallops his exercising boy has his troubles keeping him Mon the ground." Extensive improvements have been ordered .by President James W. Coffroth, one of which is a new top dressing from the head or tne stretch to the judges stand. The earth used lias all been worked through a sieve so as to catch every rock that might be contained therein. The grandstand messengers will be done away with this year and in their place rour mutuel machines have been installed to accommodate those who wish to wager without going into the betting shed. President James AV. Coffroth, who is still in Xew York, has notified the local ollice that he has the promise of many large stables in the East to ship to Tijuana.
