GRAY GABLES THE WINNER Defeats Martin A. Noonan in Main Contest at Dorval Disagreeable Racing Conditions. MONTREAL, Que., September 12. The Captain Presgrave Memorial Handicap, which featured this afternoons card at Dorval, resulted in a victory for J. H. Sheas Gray Gables, ridden by P. Walls, in a drive fror:, A. Andersons Martin A. Noonon, while third portion of the purse was gathered in by Cote dOr from the Swinke establishment. The race, which was at a mile and a sixteenth, brought a field of five to the barrier, there being one withdrawal, Muttikins. Duke John was the one to establish the early pace, while Martin A. Noonan raced in closest pursuit for the greatest part of the race. Gray Gables moved up fast on the inside when rounding the far turn and after assuming the lead, drew away into a length lead, whioh "h increased towards the end, although ridden out to withstand the determined bid of Martin A. Noonan. Cote dOr came fast at the end after overcoming early interference. Racing conditions this afternoon at Dorval Park were far from the best. A chilly wind, which followed the storm of yesterday, kept the attendance down to small figures. The track was fetlock deep in mud and gave the most pronounced mud runners an opportunity. The card, which gave promise of interesting sport, was riddled by numerous scratches, but nevertheless was productive of spirited racing. The public had a good line on the merits of the different starters and well backed choices were in the ascendency. The fourth race, at a mile and seventy yards, was productive of the best finish of the afternoon, in which Paula "V. got up m the final strides to earn a head verdict from Mayor House and The Wag. W. A. Burttschell will ship the stable he has here for J. R. Skinker to Havre de Graco at the close of this meeting. J. D. Killen, who races a small string, was an arrival from his home in Philadelphia this morning.
