COMIC SONG IMPRESSIVELY 4 Defeats Fairway and Rebuke in Extra Good Performance. Dexterous ami Hidden .Tewel in .Housing Finish Mohican liiichy to Win the Steeplechase. j LAUREL, Aid., October 19. Comic Sons showed another good performance this afternoon and accounted for the llelay Handicap, at one mile, in a drive from Fairway, while ltebuke was third. A field of eight faced the starter and Comic Song was the choice in the wagering. There was but little delay at the post and when the barrier was released the field left in good alignment. Lang found clear sailing next to the inner rail rounding the first turn and went to the front with Comic Song, Avhile Champlain was forced to circle the others to get to the leader, with Itebulce in third position on the inside. There was but little change in the positions during the first part of the contest and when entering the stretch Comic Song saved ground, while Fairway was working j j his way up on the outside. In a grueling j drive that lasted through the final eighth j Comic Song held to his task in a courageous j manner and shook off Champlain and held j Fairway safe at the end. Rebuke outlasted Champlain for the small end of the purse. It was a delightful autumn afternoon at Iaurel Park and a crowd of good proportions journeyed to the course to witness the running of the days card. Itacing on the whole was of a spirited order and the majority of the winners were accorded substantial support. Of second importance was a claiming handicap at three-quarters and a rousing finish resulted, in which William Olivers Dexterous beat Hidden Jewel by a scant margin, while Wraith was a good third. The -winner was neglected in the speculation and under Callahans energetic riding was brought up in the final eighth to take the lions share of the purse. Hidden Jewel tired after racing Elemental into defeat, but held Wraith safe when the latter challenged. The Greentree Stables Mohican was returned winner of the steeplechase, rather luckily, however, as Daffadowndilly -when leading and apparently with a good chance to score met with a mishap, her saddle slipping, forcing her rider to hang on the best he could.
