USUAL FRIDAY CARD Yesterdays Program at Havana Given Over to Lowly Plater Hainan Beats Tamper in Well Contested Struggle Bally new a Disappointment HAVANA Cuba March 2 Todays pro ¬ gram at Oriental Park was framed to suit the poorer class of platers The majority of the contests were at sprinting distances and the last two were at a mile and fifty yards Both furnished stirring contests in which the winners were home first after sinewstraining finishes to land in front by small margins marginsThe The best field went to the post in the do ing dash and E L Fitzgerald furnished the winner in Hainan which came from last place in the backstretch and got up in the final strides to beat the tiring Tamper by a head The latter set a terrific pace from the start and raced into a commanding lead Entering the homestretch he looked to have a safe margin but his early efforts began to tell and he tired badly badlyBallynew Ballynew an oddson favorite in the fourth race proved a disappointment He ran out in the early stages and came through on the inside at the top of the homestretch where he ran into a pocket When jockey Taylor got him clear he passed Miss Caltha but could not overtake Far East which beat him by a length The latter follewed the pace closely to the stretch turn where he moved up on the outside outsideGOOD GOOD HIDE HELPS GRATIAX GRATIAXGratian Gratian under a good ride managed to scor in the fifth in a driving finish with Haman second and Guardsman third The latter raced into a commanding lead in the first quarter and led by a good margin until making the turn into the homestretch where he tired and Gratian wore him down in the stretch but at the end was under a furious drive to outlast Haman by a neck The latter suffered interference and was finally taken to the outside entering the home ¬ stretch and finished fast fastHumpy Humpy found no trouble in beating the band of platers which he met in the first race a dash of threequarters for which Uncle Sonny was an even money favorite McDermott kept Humpy under restraint to the stretch turn where he went to the front and drew away into a five lengths lead in the last eighth Walter Whitaker beat Uncle Sonny by a couple of lengths for second place The latter began slowly and pulled up limping badly badlyThe The Oneck Stables The Gaff came back with another good race after scoring his maiden victory a few days back when ho won the second race Brunner waited until straightened out in the homestretch and when called on The Gaff quickly assumed the lead and at the finish beat Violet Mersereau by a couple of lengths The Ulster was third thirdTOXY TOXY SUE 0 CE AGAIN AGAINTony Tony Sue was an easy winner in the third race Milner raled her off the pace to the top of the strofh and when called on sho quickly overhauled and passed Spods and won with spend in reserve by a length and a half Spods was a tiring second secondHarry Harry McGoodwin a prominent Standard Oil ofilcial of Louisville Ky who has been enjoying a visit here left for Miami where he will remain a week before returning to his home He was accompanied by R B Miller also a prominent business man of Louisville LouisvilleIncluded Included in the list of newly arrived vis ¬ itors were Mr and Mrs James Kennedy of Detroit George Beyer and J B Prescott oC Buffalo and James Maynard of Marquetto Mkh MkhDanny Danny Louder sold the gelding Montillo to G W ONeill at private terms termsE E Daingerlield and A Hill disposed of the threeyearold Fronenea and the highclass colt Valmond to E L Fitzgerald for a private consideration considerationTwo Two carloads of horses were dispatched to the North to day One carried the horses of II Dougherty and 11 P Davis and was des ¬ tined for Huntington W Va while the other took the stable of W A McKinney bound lor Lexington Ky KyTony Tony Sue the winner of the third race was claimed by R Albright for 000 000Kenneth Kenneth Karrick trainer for the Oneck P Groos and will make his riding engage ¬ ments mentsPepper Pepper Tea was badly cut down during Ilia running of the fourth race Thursday ThursdayH H J Kennedy trainer for the Kentmero Stable has been notified to report at an early date to the farm in Boyce County Virginia for the purpose of taking up twenty one twoyearolds and putting them in train ¬ ing for the spring races in the East Ho has also been commissioned to sell the horses in training at Oriental Park
