SARATOGA AUGUST STAKES iist of Twenty One Fixtures Are Announced to Close for En ¬ tries Thursday March 15 Twentyone stakes that are to be decided during August at the Saratoga meeting will close for entries March 15 These with the rich fixtures of the same association that closed in November will give Saratoga the usual high standing of racing that is charac ¬ teristic of Americas most popular racing center The early closing features all met with unusual responses from the horsemen and this later list is sure to be as propor ¬ tionately popular popularFor For the threeyearolds and over the Sara ¬ toga Handicap Saratoga Cup and the Mer ¬ chants and Citizens Handicap These each have a similar value to last year when both the Saratoga Handicap and the Cup were each of 55000 added The Merchants and Citizens has 54000 added while the Cham plain and Delaware two other handicaps are of 52500 added each As a matter of fact all seven of the races that close for this age division are added money prizes prizesSix Six of the stakes that are to be closed are exclusively for the threeyearolds and the only change made in this list over the offerings of last year is that the Saranac Handicap which was of 3000 added last August becomes a 510000 guaranteed stake for this year yearIn In this age division the best offering in point of added money is the Miller Stakes with a prize of i 00 in added money The others are the Expectation and Huron Han ¬ dicaps and the Mohawk and Seneca two sell ¬ ing stakes It will be remembered that it was in the Huron last August that Rock minister administered the only defeat that Whiskaway suffered all year It was after Whiskaway had been sold to C W Clark for 5125000 and it was the only time he raced for that sportsman sportsmanEight Eight of the races that are to be closed are for the juveniles and the list is topped by that fine sporting feature the Saratoga I Special Five of these are of 55000 guar ¬ anteed each in the Adirondack and Albany Handicaps Schuylerville the Flash and San ford In this juvenile list there has been one change when the Schuylerville for fillies has been increased 1000 for last year it was of 54000 guaranteed
