H. P. WHITNEYS BIG STABLE Forty-two Horses Being Prepared for the 1923 Racing Season. ■ ♦ ■ Enchantment and Other Derby Eligible* Wintered Well — Big Hand of Two-Year- Obis Will Be Ready to Carry Colors. — ♦- NEW YORK. N. Y.. April 10.— Each year a large and powerful stable comes to the races under the colors of Harry Payne Whitney and it has been the custom for some time past to divide the establishment under different trainers. This was found necessary on account of the size of the establishment, and for the racing this year James Rowe. Sr., James Rowe; Jr.. Fred Hopkins and Mose Goldblatt will all have divisions. The Rowes have wintered at Brookdale in New Jersey with the main division, but Hopkins has had some at Penning for several weeks and Mose Goldblatt will be given his Kentucky string before long. The stable is exceedingly strong both in ouality and number this year, there being forty-two in the string, while there are also three that Rowe is training for the Greentree Stable. Broomster and flood Night are the older horses that Hopkins has at Bowie. The Greentree Stable band in the string are the Kentucky Derby eligibles Rialto and Barbary Bush as well as the two-year-old Leopardess, a daughter of Dominant and Fresnay. Enchantment, the gelded son of Chicle and Enchanting, on his showing of last year, appears to be the strongest card that Rowe has for the Kentucky Derby, but besides this one thee ligibles are Picketer, Flag- oiitiiiin it on second page. H. P. WHITNEYS BIG STABLE staff and Chickvale. All of these have spent the winter at Mr. Whitneys New Jersey farm and little is known of their present condition beyond the assurance that they have all come through the winter in excellent health.
