JUMPING SAMPLES COMING Horses Bought Under Subscription Plan Due Here Soon from England and France. NEW YORK. N. Y.. April 10. Interest continues to grow in the proposed subscription to improve steeplechasing. which was recently started under the guidance of J. K. Havis, president of the National Steeplechase a4id Hunt Association. When the suggestion was first announced Mr. Davis. Robert L. Oerry and J. E. Wide-ner. with a desire to be able to show a sample of the horses that would be obtained for subscribers, delegated a well-known firm of buyers to purchase for them in England three horses at a price to be named for the subscription. This commission has been executed and the horses are due to arrive in the near future. With a desire to cover all details inquiry-was made in France and the reports received from there were most flattering. In fact the French horsemen did not hesitate to claim that they can supply the subscrip-ton with just what is wanted, with horses really better suited for the purpose, as the style of steeplechasing in France came closer to our own methods than in either England or Ireland. This prompted an effort to get over a sample of what the French turfinen had to c.ffer. George D. Widener and J. S. Cos-den agreed to order at once and the commission has been cabled to Paris. When these horses arrive they will be placed where inspection can be invited and then the subscription will be formally announced. From the indications even now. it is all but assured that the response will surprise the sponsors of the plan, and, best of all. many of those taking part will be showing their colors for the first time.
