GOOD DERBY GALLOPS ■ ♦ ■ Bo McMillan Works a Mile in Impressive Style. ♦ ■ Cartoonist to Start in Both Preakness and Derby — Fisher Horses Going to Havre. ♦ LOriSVILLE. Ky.. April 10.— Bo McMillan turned in a creditable mile at Chun-hill Downs this morning when the timers caught the big son of Ballot a quarter in 25, naif in 50, thrte-quarters in 1:15 4-5 and mile in 1:45 1-5. The last quarter was only ;:i the nature of a canter, as trainer Calm only intended to work the colt three-quarters. Bo McMillan looks as good as hands can make him and critics claim he will be a hard horse to beat in the Derby. Donges also was given a mil° workout in company with Colonel Whallen. Nothing sensational in the way of time wis accomplished, as the Derby candidate was pulling up to his pacemaker all the way. The lirst quarter was 24 3-5. half in 50, three-quarters in 1:17 and mile in 1:48. The quartette of Derby eligibles in John R, Maddens barn were given useful workouts. MacLir and Sandy Hatch went together. They galloped the quarter in 25 :S-5. half in 53 4-5. three-quarters in 1:21 2-5. mile in 1:50 2-5. Flintstone and Dozer were galloped together, the first quarter in 2i 3-5. half in 53 2-5. three-quarters in 1:2? 1-5 and mile in 1:47 4-5. Flintstone is now said t be doing the best of any of the Madden candidates. The son of Friar Rock looks of Derby caliber and is training spkndidly. The mile today is the fastest he has shown in his Derby preparation. WDJ TRAINING WELL. Wida. Theodore Muellers Derby colt, was seen in action this morning for the first real work that has been asked of him since he came from Cuba. The black son of Dick Finnell is certainly a much-improve 1 colt .and his recent good showing at Havana, where he won his last four starts, gives hi. barkers some hopes of him getting to the Derby. He showed considerable "rep" befor taking the track and when he did he gallone 1 every quarter in about the same time, going the first quarter in 24, half in 4J 3-5 and pd!ed" up at the three-quarters in 1:16 1-5. Thfal was considered a corking good trial by the work watchers. Actuary was given a "blowout" of tl.r.e-eighths of a mile in 38 2-5 in preparation for a longer work tomorrow. Trainer Alex Gordon gave Cartoorr.-t and Hyperion a slow work over the mile and in eighth course at Douglast Park. Both roltfl were under restraint throughout, in which the first half was caught in 52 3-5. three-quarters in 1:24 4-5, mile in 1:51 3-5 and mile and an eighth in 2:07 1-5. Both these cottfl are near racing form. It is said that Gordon will split the Fisher stable, sending Cartoonist. Hyperion and several two-y-.ir obis to Havre de Grace and those which are not quite ready to answer the bugle to Jamaica. Cartoonist is intended to start ia the Preakness and after that event will be Rent back to Louisville to run in the Derby. Gordon probably will ship his stable next Ban-day. Trainer George I,and. who has In M -lu-.r-iam in fine condition, will move the W.nle-rrvmn horses over to Churchill in a few days. It is said that land prefers to put the "final prep" on In Memoriam over the course on which the Derby will be d-cded. Local followers of the turf, who will he employed in the nmtaei department at the Huntington. VV. Va.. meeting, will leave for that city tomorrow. The clerks include: Charles Koch, superintendent of mutuels; Max Griffin, John Fontana. Baxter Cressy, David Brown. Horace Nuckoia, Joe Lapaille! E. C Kohl and Robert Shelley.
