MOVE TO LEXINGTON « Number of Derby Candidates at Downs Ready to Race. . » -.- Firebrand in Fine Condition — "Bud" Fishers Stable Leaves for the East Monday. ♦ LOUISVILLE, Ky.. April 21.— Several Derby candidates at Churchill Downs were given useful workouts today, but nothing sensational in the way of fast time was noted. A number of the eligibles for the bis raee are preparing to entrain for Lexington next week, where they will fill their engagements in th Blue Grass Stakes, overnight purses and handicaps. The Blue Grass Stakes at Lexington is to be run the closing day of the meeting there. The winner of this event always gets the serious consideration for the Derby, at least among Ken-tuckians. Pravus and Vanishing Boy. the former owned by a local sportsman and the latter by Body Marshall, a Pittsburgh attorney, worked together this morning. Iravus was easily the best. The Finn colt appears to be rounding into great condition. His time was. quarter in 24. half in 49. three-quarters in 1 :lfi. mile in 1 :45V£. Vanishing Boy finished several lengths behind in 1 :4GM;. Buster and firebrand were sent over the mile route by trained A. L. Kirby. Firebrand seems to be about ready. He was hard held all the way. His work was half in 51Vk. three-quarters in 1:17% and mile in 1 :4C5. Busters time: Half 40, three-quarters 1 :17-5. mile 1 :46Vf,. .! •hn !•:. Maddens Derby colt Dozer showed a creditable mile when he worked the quarter in 24%. half in 49%. three-quarters in 1 :16 and the mile in 1 :4* . This is one of the Madden eligibles which it is said the master of Hamburg Place intends to leave here in charge of Miller Henderson. Sandy Hatch also will be left here to fill his Derby engagements, according to reports. Theo. Millers Dick Finnell colt Wlda was given an opener of three-eighths of a mile in 37%. Alice Blue Gown and Miss Muffins worked together five-eighths in 1 :02%. Alice Blue d/wn is intended to start in the Ashland Oaks, the feature of the opening days racing at Lexington next Saturday. The Mead.iwbrook Stables Derby candidate Prince Til Tii was sent three-quarters in 1 :17%. At Douglas Park there was little doing among the I erby eligibles. Fitzrue worked a half mile in 51% Trainer Alex Gordon will leave with "Bud--Fishers big stable for Belmont Park Monday. If Cartcoatet does as well as hi:; training indicates Gordon says he will start him in the Preakness and come back to Louisville to run the son of Celt in the Derby. There are twenty-two racers in the Fisher stable, more than half of them being untried two-year-olds of the best breeding.
