ON RAZOR EDGE j 4 Works Full Derby Route at Downs , in 2:09 Over Slow Track. ♦ The flown Gallops 3file In 1:40%— Rock-minister at His Best — Many Arrivals • From Lexington. ♦ LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 9— Prince K. is on razor edge for the Derby. The big Mont dOr colt did things today when he went over the Derby route of one mile and a quarter in a creditable manner for the condition of the track, which was at least two seconds • slow to the mile. The timers caught him . the first quarter in 23%, half 49. three-quar- t ters 1 .14%, mile 1 :41%, mile and an eighth a a 1 :55 and mile and a quarter in 2 :09. Trainer t Louis Marshall was happy when the colt i pulled up sound and cooled out in fine £ condition. A cold wind was blowing upstretch as the colt finished against it. All Marshall would say, though, was that "If they beat Prince K. in the Derby the j one that does it will know he has been to t the races." Marshall would not say whether r he would start Prince K. in the Clark Handi- d cap next Saturday. Trainer Kay Spence showed he had a . good fast colt in The Clown, ready to run in the Derby, when he sent him for a mile in company with Pegasus. The Clown turned . in one of the fastest mile gallops of the spring training period, going the first quarter in 23, half 47%, three-quarters 1 :14. mile . 1 :40%. Pegasus had enough and fell back _ at the three-quarters, which he did in 1:14. ,. In Memoriam was galloped a half mile in a •" 0 in preparation for longer work tomorrow. Sun Fey, the W. S. Kiimer Derby and Oaks eligible, was timed the first quarter in 24%, half 50%, three-quarters 1:17 and mile 1:44. j, Blue Stone was timed the first quarter in » 25%. half 50%, three-quarters 1:16 and mile -] 1:43%. r Rockminister was sent a mile and an $ eighth, the first quarter in 24. half 49, three-quarters 1:15, mile 1:42% and mile and an t to eighth 1:57%. Rockminister was hard held _ all the way and seems to be at his best. Two carloads of the J. N. Camden horses e arrived at the Downs this morning. There - were thirty-two head in the entourage. Cal I Milam sent word that he would send nine t more of this stable tomorrow, including the a crack fillies Anna M. Humphrey and Dust Flower. t John Schorr, trainer for E. B. On the same car will be seven of the Nevada Stock Farm Stable, trained by Preston Burch, Jr. General Thatcher is in this stable and here again many of tbe punters who are backing the Sweep colt in the future books will be relieved. They will, at least, get a run for their money. Fred Taral will be here next week with Great Man and another Derby eligible, as well as a couple of Kentucky Oaks candidates of the Riviera Stable. Maj. Thomas McDowell has notified superintendent Young he will be here Friday, with his stable of twenty-nine horses. Trainer Jack McPherson arrived here today with seventeen horses from Lexington, including the fast sprinter Marvin May. Mose Lowenstein also got in with his eleven racers from Lexington. Information gleaned from Mose Goldblatt today was that the Whitney Derby eligibles would be shipped from Pimlico next Sunday and probably would arrive here Monday. Tn this shipment there will be eight of the best Whitney Derby and Oaks eligibles. Andy Blakely. trainer for W. Daniel, the Chicago turfman, is expected to arrive early next week from Jamaica with Blanc Seing, winner of the Tijuana Derby and well-backed for the Kentucky Derby, as well as Lighter and the unbeaten two-year-old Sue Donovan. Blanc Seing. according to reports, will be a sure starter in the Derby. His last trial this week at Jamaica, a mile in 1:40%, was the best work of any Derby candidate at that track this year. The stage is set for the opening of the spring meeting at Chun-hill Downs next Saturday with the 0,000 added Clark Handicap and the ,000 added Debutante Stakes, for two-year-old fillies, as the features. Many of the crack handicap horses which will take part in the big feature are already on the ground. These include Whiskaway and United Verde, the C. W. Clark pair; Jefferson Livingstons Firebrand, Mose loldblattS Dr. Clark. S. N. Holmans Be t Fal. Mont-fort Jones Rockminister and Fair Phantom, the Meadow brook Stables Bon Homme and L. F. Marshalls Prince K. In addition there are several Derby colts eligible for the handicap.
