INDEPENDENCE HANDICAP Nominations for National Holiday Feature to Be Run at Latonia on July 4. CINCINNATI, Ohio. May 16.— Fourth of July is always one of the banner racing days of the year wherever the sport is conducted. This is particularly true at fair Latonia. where, on the National holiday, that beautiful race course is crowded to its capacity. The astute Col. Matt Winn, general manager of the Kentucky Jockey Club, has provided well and wisely in offering the Independence Handicap as tire principal attraction for that occasion. In the early years from 1910 to 1919 inclusive the Independence was not of great value and was run at one mile and three-sixteenths. In 1920 the value was increased to 5,000 added and the distance lengthened to one mile and a half. The wisdom of this move is seen in the high quality of the nominations for the last three-years. The same is true of the entries for this years decision, as a glance at the following list reveals : INDEPENDENCE H ANDUAP— 5,000 Added. For three-year-ohlB and over. 1 1-2 Miles.
