Over 1,000,000 in Nineteen Years That racing on the North American continent is an enterprise of great importance and magnitude one may readily judge from the returns in stake and purse distribution since 1905. The colossal sum of 91,235,770 has been distributed among the horsemen by the race tracks of the United States, Canada, Cuba and Mexico during the past nineteen years, the United States contributing about three-quarters of that total. The wonderful growth .of the American turf in the last few years is told in increasing totals each year. The compilation beneath shows the annual distribution in stakes and purses per year from 1905 to 1923 inclusive, the United States being responsible for S68,742,427 of the 91,235,770 distributed.
