SUSPENSIONS DURING 1923 Punishment for Infractions of the Rules of Racing. Only In a Few Cases Was It of a Drastic Nature Majority Were Due to Minor Offenses. Only in a few cases was the punishment drastic for infractions of the rules of racing during the year 1923. C. T. Worthington was suspended at Lexington September 26, pending the investigation of the running of the colt Worthmore in the Breeders Futurity. Later this owner sold all his horses. Jockey F. Wilson was ruled off the turf February 7 at Oriental Park. Similar punishment was meted out to jockey H. Lafferty at Brig-house Park July 3. At Columbus, Ohio, on August 9, jockey L. Brown was suspended for one year for striking another jockey with his whip. Steeplechase jockey J. Williams was suspended June 8 and his license revoked by the Canadian Racing Associations. Two owners, G. Olsen artd R. Campbell, Avere ruled off the turf on October 2 at Reno for refusing to turn over their horse after being claimed. In a majority of instances the punishment inflicted was for minor infractions and consisted of fines and j suspensions, the severity of which depended on the nature of the offense.
