LURE OF GOLD, showing a good order of. speed, stcod a long and hard drive well and barely managed to cntstay LAHONTON. The latter came wide when turning for home, then finished fast and gamely. SEQUAN, away slowly, closed a gap with a rush and, with a faster start, -would have won. COCKSURE showed the most speed to the stretch, where he tired. SHASTA EXPRESS also tired. AU REVOIR. after racing in closest but unavailing pursuit of the speedy pacemaker, made a game finish and just managed to save second place. SAMPLE made up ground and finished fast. CAREEN, after showing speed to the stretch, quit badly. The latter was in close quarters next to the rail while racing down the backstretch. then got clear and. tiiiishiug fast, would have won in another stride. SETHS ALIBI lost much ground when coming to the stretch turn, but finished closing up fast. CAVEAT EMPTOR tired after showing much speed. DICK TERPIN was away slowly.
